FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know which meter is right for me?
It depends on what you want to measure and where. As a general guide:
- Whole-home energy monitoring — a whole-home energy monitor paired with matching current transformers (CTs) clipped around your main service conductors is the most common starting point.
- Circuit-level monitoring — if you want to track individual circuits (EV charger, HVAC, hot tub, etc.), you'll need a monitor that supports multiple CT inputs along with individual CTs for each circuit.
- Sub-panel or outbuilding monitoring — a standalone power meter with a pulse or Modbus output is often the right fit.
Not sure? Email us at support@diymetering.com with a quick description of your panel setup and what you're trying to track, and we'll point you in the right direction.
Do your products work with standard home electrical panels?
Yes. Our energy monitors and current transformers are designed to work with standard North American residential electrical panels (120/240V split-phase). Most installations require no rewiring — CTs simply clamp around existing conductors without breaking the circuit. Always follow your local electrical code and, if in doubt, consult a licensed electrician before working inside your panel.
What's your return policy?
We offer a 30-day return window from the date of delivery. Items must be unused, in original condition, and in their original packaging. Please see our full Returns Policy for details on how to initiate a return.
Do you offer technical support?
Absolutely. US-based technical support is available by email at support@diymetering.com. We typically respond within one business day. For common installation questions, check the product page — most listings include wiring diagrams and step-by-step setup guides.
How long does shipping take?
Most in-stock orders ship within 1–2 business days. Standard shipping typically arrives in 3–5 business days depending on your location. Expedited options are available at checkout. Orders over $50 qualify for free standard shipping.
Are your products UL listed?
Many of the products we carry are UL listed or carry equivalent safety certifications (CE, ETL). Certification details are listed on each individual product page. If you need documentation for a specific product — for example, for a permit application — contact us and we can provide the relevant datasheets.
Can I use these products with home automation systems like Home Assistant, Emporia, or Sense?
Compatibility varies by product. Many of our energy monitors support Modbus RTU/TCP, pulse outputs, or direct integrations with popular home automation platforms. Check the product page for compatibility notes, or ask us — we're happy to help confirm compatibility with your specific setup.
